Shopping Center News

There has bee A LOT of buzz lately concerning our shopping center. As most of you know from reading www.lakehighlandstoday.com the owner of our shopping center has defaulted on his loans and skipped the country. Nice. So the center is set for foreclosure later this month. In some ways, that is the good news. Our shopping center is a GREAT deal. Expected to sell in the $2.5 - $3.0 million range the land could easily be split up and sold to recapture over half of the investment leaving very affordable land for redevelopment. Even better news is that there appear to be a number of interested buyers. We have enjoyed many conversations in the past week or so with potential buyers most of whom seem to have the intention of redeveloping the center into a neighborhood shopping center - just what we have all been begging for. However one nevere knows how it will play until the last card is laid. Remember the Timber Creek development meetings? Remember how the leadership (civic and development) SWORE a Wal Mart would not be built on that parcel? Yep - now it’s a double decker Sam’s/WalMart catastrophe. Lake Highlands, we have a GREAT opportunity at our door step with our shopping plaza. It is imperative that we ALL stay vigilant and vocal in our support for positive redevelopment.

It’s Super Sale Sunday!

We are open today, Sunday,December 27th - our last Sunday to be open until next holiday season! And why would we choose to open today? It’s our HUGE storewide clearance sale of course! Everything (yes, that did say EVERYTHING) in the store is 20% off! Christmas and select merchandise is 50% off! As many of you know we only do this type of sale twice a year - right before we go off to market to buy new stuff for the store - we need to make room! So hurry in today from 12 - 5…this sale only lasts a couple of days!

Make the wrapping a part of the gift!

Man, the gift wrap world sure has changed. I remember growing up in Ft. Worth I couldn’t wait for the holidays so I could go to Container Store and see their amazing gift wrap section. Since opening our store we’ve been amazed by how few people want roll wrap (rolls of gift wrap) but are opting for more creative solutions instead. We have some great gift bags in that are printed or decorated but there are many other ways to up your gift wrapping game this year.

Use a Christmas stocking as your gift bag
Make a plain bag more fun by tying ornaments on with ribbon instead of a bow
Use our fun, laminated Sissy Tags instead of to/from tags
A festive coffee mug, bowl or platter can be a great platform to fill with yummy treats all tied up with a ribbon or set in a large cellophane bag
Try using a fun holiday kitchen towel to create a gift bag

The options are limitless but with a little creativity your present can be more than just what’s inside the wrapping but the whole kit and kaboodle!

Hostess Gifts - don’t leave home without one

‘Tis the season for the visit…whether you are dropping by for a party, a meal or a gift exchange, there is one key point of “visiting” that can not be overlooked - the hostess gift.

Truthfully speaking, before meeting Tony I never knew or understood this concept . Then again before meeting Tony most of my “visits” included a beer bong so keep that in perspective. But now that I am expected to act like a grown up (gee that leaves a bad taste in one’s mouth) I now get to attend lovely parties, dinners and gatherings.

With those invitations comes a duty - a duty to thank your host(ess) for opening their home, their pantry and (hopefully) their bar to you - enter the hostess gift. A few things to remember - a hostess gift is to be exactly that.. a gift for the hostess. You shall not expect the hostess to use or serve your gift while you are there (if you bring a pie… it is for the hostess to enjoy at her leisure at another time.) In many circles it is considered rude to bring a food item to a meal unless the food item was requested (in David speak…it’s rude to bring a casserole to a dinner party and expect MaryLu to stop what she is doing and find a place for the casserole at the table.) And the gift need not be extravagant or expensive..just a token to say thank you.

Tony has a number of great hostess gift ideas in the store. His most popular in simply tying a colorful spreader to a package of napkins - a great gift for under $10. Many times we’ll pair that with a bottle of wine or box of chocolates - always a crowd pleaser. A lovely cookbook, a couple of gourmet items or a small serving piece are all great hostess gifts.

So stop in and stock up soon. It’s always good to keep a few hostess gifts on hand for those last minute invitations that, alas, do not include a go at the beer bong.

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

Who opened the door and let the cold into Texas? Regardless it sure does feel like Christmas outside and T. Hee is ready for all of your holiday shopping needs.

One of our biggest categories of gift buying last year was teacher’s gifts. One thing we learned is teachers typically do not want anything with the word “teacher” on it. So try something fun this year like a fabulous candle from Caldrea or k.Hall, a monogram make up bag (for the ladies of course) or some fun bangle bracelets (only $14.95 for a set of 8!) You can always win big with personalized stationery or put together a yummy gift with dips and spreads from our gourmet hutch.

Whether shopping for teacher or sister or neighbor or friend, T. Hee has what you need this holiday season. Oh…and when shopping for friends out of state, be sure to visit My Office across the parking lot for all of your shipping needs.
